ROXO 09
The years go by and the calendar doesn't deceive. The first half of the year is always a sign of another Monster Jinx release: we have arrived at the 9th edition of ROXO, the annual compilation of the purpleest crew of the Portuguese music scene. The artwork, always with a different visual artist, is this time by OKER.
We continue to explore the nooks and crannies of beat culture, with one foot in hip hop, the other in electronica, and with a busy and restless tail that remains curious about many more genres and subcultures - which couldn't be otherwise when the crew is already so extensive for just one monster.
ROXO 09 starts out sunny, danceable, light but warm - so we hear 'Incense Fosse Utopia', 'All Dreams' or 'Around' in one go. In 'Calling' the pace quickens and little by little the weight falls on 'Shoulder'. The melody gains more space and textures when we are in 'Firenze' or even in the ether of 'Over'. From the bounce of 'CRCS' we jump to a 'Halfclub' that has little of medium, and all of bass. The sky is already dark and we can enjoy the night with 'Meet Your Maker' and 'ALLORA'.
This annual excuse for the family to get together is the ideal counterpoint to situate in which direction each member's music is moving. Whether they come from a recent release, as in the cases of DarkSunn, NO FUTURE or Veelain (three members who left new work in their catalog in the year 2022); or are already preparing their next work. Thus, these artists join Raez, Maria, Vasco Completo, MAF, Xando, E.A.R.L., OSEB and Ghost Wavvves.
